About Us

In 2019, High Street Books will celebrate 20 years of supplying schoolbooks and stationery to families and schools in Cork and beyond.

HSB is a family business established by Maths teacher Damien & Nurse/Postmistress Breda Moriarty in 1999. Damien has taught Maths in many local secondary schools as well as 20 years in Australia. Many of our customers and staff have been given impromptu maths lessons over the years; his enthusiasm for education is inspiring. He also loves making jig saws! Damien is retired(ish)but luckily is on hand as our advisor.

“From Little Acorns Do Mighty Oaks Grow”

In High Street Post Office, where Breda is the post-mistress, Damien established High Street Books. His own son Mike could not source schoolbooks in town and Damien saw an opportunity.

In 2002, Laura Stapleton joined the HSB family, followed soon after by Natasha O Sullivan and along with Mike and Damien we were on our way to creating the High Street Books you know today.

Our main asset over the years has always been our staff. We are lucky to have the opportunity to give local students their first job. We are thrilled to receive so many compliments about the friendliness and level of service received from our staff. The loyalty, enthusiasm and ambition that our staff have is wonderful.

We are very grateful for our loyal customers and we are always striving to be as efficient, friendly and knowledgeable as possible .

In April 2013, HSB opened a dedicated Teacher Resource Centre in our head office, just off the Kinsale Road Roundabout. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive educational support service so we have now created a space just for teachers. All year round teachers can view primary titles from all the leading publishers along with a comprehensive range of supplementary material. We are familiar with all the different teaching initiatives and stategies. Contact 0214319113 for further information.
