Welcome to High Street Books.
In 2024, High Street Books celebrated 25 years of supplying schoolbooks and stationery to families and schools in Cork and beyond.
High Street Books was established in 1999 by Maths teacher Damien Moriarty and Nurse and Postmistress Breda Moriarty. Damien taught in several local secondary schools and spent 20 years teaching in Australia. His enthusiasm for education shaped the foundations of the business, and over the years many customers and staff have benefited from an impromptu maths lesson or two. Although now retired (mostly), he still lends his experience and guidance to the team.
The business began in High Street Post Office, where Breda worked as Postmistress. When Damien’s son Mike struggled to source schoolbooks locally, Damien noticed the need for a dedicated schoolbook shop in Cork - and High Street Books was born.
In 2002, Laura Stapleton joined the team, followed soon after by Natasha O’Sullivan. Together with Mike and Damien, they helped build High Street Books into the trusted, family-run business it is today.
Our greatest strength has always been our staff. Over the years, we have been proud to give many local students their first job. We regularly receive kind feedback about the friendliness and helpful service in our shops, which means a great deal to us.
We are equally grateful to our loyal customers. Whether buying school supplies is an exciting milestone or simply something that needs to be ticked off the list, we aim to make the experience as smooth and straightforward as possible.
We are specialists in schoolbooks and supplies and are here to help all year-round. With decades of experience, we offer a personable, efficient and reliable service to our customers and schools.
